Torta de miel

This is a traditional recipe for torta de miel, a rich Paraguayan molasses cake made with dark molasses, orange juice, and self-rising flour, resulting in a dense, aromatic, and deeply flavorful dessert. RECIPE INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups (480g) self-rising flour
  • 2 eggs
  • juice of 2 oranges
  • zest of 2 oranges
  • 2 cups (700g) dark molasses
  • 100g (3.5 oz) butter
  • 1 tbsp baking soda

METHOD

    Beat eggs with butter and 1 cup (120g) flour.

    Add orange zest, molasses, and remaining flour.

    Dissolve baking soda in orange juice and add to the batter, mixing thoroughly.

    Grease and flour an oven-safe mold.

  5. 05

    Bake in preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 1 hour.

    Remove, let cool, unmold, and serve.
