ABOUT THE DISH
Veldt is a dense Namibian bread that can be literally translated as bread of the wild . It consists of whole wheat flour, milk, salt, sugar, and warming spices such as cinnamon and ginger. The bread was originally prepared by European settlers who found a way to satiate their hunger with familiar ingredients. The usage of baking powder allows the dough to rise quickly, and it is then placed over a campfire to bake. It is recommended to serve veldt while still hot, preferrably with some butter on the side.
